BLOG AMBITION: ANIA B.
Ania – http://www.aniab.net/
Calgary’s fashion scene faces many obstacles as it tries to find an identity among the bigger and more established, but the creative brain drain is one such obstacle that’s close to Ania’s heart: “I know of too much talent that has chosen to live elsewhere, mostly because of the lack of the local knowledge and appreciation for fashion.”
Ania is certainly doing her part in stimulating the fashion economy in a city that has become known for booming business: her eponymous blog has been going strong since launching in 2010 and has become one of Calgary’s best known and best loved sources of local fashion inspiration. Her love of styling and clothes appears in each post. Modelling since the age of 14 has granted Ania many connections that she often calls upon to help with content, and any given day you can also see the work of Calgary’s top stylists, artists and photographers on the site.
She understands the value that blogs have in this digital age, and the potential to influence a wide audience: “Bloggers take on an editor’s role…there is a niche for this and there are people ready to listen.” While she does what she wants and on her terms, Ania understands that involvement is key to growth: “It’s a big reason I started photographing other people – to introduce them and their friends to my site, and give them a place to participate.”
While Calgary still has a lot of growing to do, and building something from nothing is a daunting task, Ania is up for the challenge: “People don’t put much value on blogs in Canada, but I would love to be able to change that.” We have a feeling she just might succeed.
