BLOG AMBITION: ORDINARY PEOPLE
Ordinary People || http://theordinarypeoples.blogspot.ca/
Fashion and science might seem worlds apart from each other, but these are the two realms Chemistry major Alyssa Lau feels most comfortable in. As soon as the lab coat is hung up Alyssa prefers to reach for more exciting sartorial choices. Lau has been sharing her inspirations with the world through her blog Ordinary People. The name comes from the idea that anyone is capable of creatively expressing themselves through fashion (even chemists). Ordinary People is a diverse fashion blog where you will also find music posts and DIY tutorials on everything from ombre hair to tie-dying to Photoshop techniques.
“My cousin and I originally started it. We found some blogs we liked and thought ‘hey, maybe we can try this.’” What started as an experiment has grown into a success, and Alyssa is showing the world that there’s more in Edmonton than the Oilers and a really big mall.
“In terms of fashion I think the scene in Calgary is still more advanced. This city is a lot more exposed to the world and I think it responds to that exposure. But in Edmonton some people might be surprised at the fashion you can find if you know where to look.”
However, there is one place in Edmonton you’ll never find Alyssa shooting for her blog: her school. “It’s really conservative,” she laughs. “People are always in sweatpants!”
