BORGORE
HE HAS A REPUTATION, AND THAT’S OKAY
This month Freq caught up with Israeli producer, Asaf Borger—aka “L’enfant terrible” of dubstep—a former heavy metal drummer with a notorious sexual appetite. Riding high on “Bitches Love Cake,” Borger’s recent fun-lovin’ track, he’ll be coming to Canada this fall to deliver oven-fresh tunes on his Bakery tour. Familiar with his wild reputation, and well known for his lewd and cruderness, we were ready for anything, but were surprised to find that he has a fondness for jazz and he’s also much more polite than one would think.
So, you’ve been filming a video?
Yes, was shooting the video for Decisions with Miley Cyrus…and many more.
Can you tell us about the video concept at all?
It’s going to be interesting, that’s all I’m going to say. Nothing is worse than a spoiled surprise. You’ll have to wait…
It wasn’t admitted that it was Miley at first because you said you want genuine reactions minus the hype of secret vocalist. What did you find from your “social experiment”?
I can say that people listening to music nowadays are more open-minded. This generation is more up for good music as oppose to judgements concerned about Miley. The general reaction has been that everyone is cool with it.
Should Billy Rae be worried about you associating with his daughter?
No comment…(just laughter).
You’re a jazz fan, which not many people would guess. You recently said you’d want a hologram of Ella Fitzgerald like that Tupac hologram seen at Coachella this year. Can you tell me why you’d choose her?
Ella has had way more hits than Tupac and is bigger than Tupac. People will hate that I said that, but it’s true. She’s amazing.
You have a huge online presence across various social media platforms. What do you think of this new age of celebrity where everyone is so accessible? Do you find you pay a price with your privacy?
I submit to interviews so I can’t complain. I just changed my twitter name to the Booty Monsta. I have a reputation and that’s okay.
You’ve been linked to teenage porn star, Jessie Andrews. Seems like that ideal partnership for your explicit lyrics.
No, done and over it. Do not want to talk about it.
You had previously said that you wished for peace and dreamed of playing in the neighbouring countries to Israel. Do you think your explicit lyrics would fly there?
There’s a few countries that I can’t play my music. But what I meant was that it’s more of a dream for peace and I feel that everyone is sick of war. So maybe not me playing, due to my content, but maybe one day have peace and make music more accessible to everyone.
Your album has a release date for early next year. Can you tell us anything about that?
Yeah, hopefully my album will be out next year. It’s just that I’m never fully satisfied so it is really hard to try to complete an album while touring and living out of a suitcase. An album is nothing to fuck with. My new EP is coming out next week. It’s called Turn Up featuring Carnage. Just smashes it. It’s next level. Trust me.
Trust you?
Always trust the Booty Monsta! Vote for me for president!
Got it. What has been your craziest fan interaction?
Lots of crazy things, naked girls mostly but there have been people threatening to kill me plenty of times. My fans are just crazy—they’re great. People either love me or hate me…probably because I fucked their sisters.
You’ll be coming to Canada soon, what can your Canadian fans expect?
Nothing but a lot of booties and good music.
You’ll be in Calgary, and you were slated to be playing in my hometown Kelowna, but that was recently moved to Penticton…
I heard Kelowna girls are hot. Are you hot?
Um…
I have been known for making my interviewers strip down on Skype.
And we’ll leave it at that, thank you Asaf!
Thank you, have a lovely day!
Borgore will be dancing in a sea of naked girls and nipple pasties @TEN Nightclub Friday, Oct. 26
