Located on the side of Brown’s Mountain in Port Renfrew on Vancouver Island, Tall Tree Music Festival has become one of B.C.’s highly anticipated festivals of the summer outdoor festival season. Showcasing talent both national and international, it encompasses all kinds of genres like hip-hop, reggae, country, folk and electronic varieties. Also a supporter of the town of Port Renfrew, Tall Tree is all about giving back to the local community.

A diverse, fun and laid-back atmosphere, this annual event is filled with people of all backgrounds coming together to celebrate the summer and hear some great acts. Do you like having a silly time in your animal onesie while dancing to live music by acts from around the globe? Well, then this party is definitely one for you.

DJ Nu-Mark

The man behind the turntables for the legendary hip-hop group, Jurassic 5, DJ Nu-Mark is an internationally recognized scratch sensation. With refined music production and true showmanship on stage, like his famous “Toy Set” (a set entirely crafted on children’s toys), which went viral, you won’t want to miss this headlining set at Tall Tree. Worthy

If you’re looking to dance to some seriously good bassy house this weekend, then head on over to check out Worthy’s set. It will no doubt be one of the most energetic, bumpin’ dancefloors over the course of the next few days in Port Renfrew. A member of the Dirtybird crew in San Francisco, this tech house connoisseur will have you shaking your ass in no time. Have a listen to his Deep House Amsterdam mix here:

 


Mat the Alien

If you know the scene on the West Coast of British Columbia – especially if you’re from Whistler – then you’ve probably heard of this guy. Not only has Mat The Alien gained a reputation for his flawless mixing abilities while playing a variety of genres, he also has one of the best “alien faces” around. Have a listen here to his Sleeveless Warriors Minimix, and then do yourself a favour and go watch this friendly giant work his magic.


Grand Analog

From Toronto, Ontario, Tall Tree has recruited Grand Analog for this year for some seriously soulful and funky tunage. This DJ posse is known for their “beautiful mess of rap ‘n’ roll, dub ‘n’ soul.” For a slightly chiller, yet groovy dancefloor vibe, be sure to head on over to their set this weekend. Marques Wyatt

Coming up from L.A., California, Marques Wyatt is a well respected house music DJ of high taste level and calibre. At Tall Tree this year, this set will definitely be one for the true house music heads. Checkout this downloadable link to his mix for XLR8R:


Rob Paine

Rob Paine’s own blend of reggae and dub fused with techno and house has elevated this producer within the ranks of notable, top-notch Philadelphia electronic music producers.
